About Us

The Swedish Rug company has evolved through my love of colour and textiles. The rich history of families lives are woven into every traditional rug as old clothing was recycled and used.  I could say that my deep love of all things Scandinavian comes from me being three quarters Swedish and that I have spent most of my life travelling there visiting family and friends. In 2004 my husband and I made the decision to move and with our three children in tow off we went.

I went on to open an antique shop in central Gothenburg which is where I developed my love for Swedish rugs and Textiles. The ease of rugs, being able to use and not worry about walking all over them because we could wash them in a machine, I thought was amazing! The more you wash the traditional runners, the better they become. the colours becoming ever more faded. The designs, patterns used can be linked to different areas of Sweden.

The rips runner would be found in manor houses or smart apartments in larger cities where the traditional runner were more likely to be in farm houses or summer homes in the country.

After spending seven years in Sweden, we moved back to London where I focused on specialising in Scandinavian rugs which also included flatweave runners and larger rugs dating from the 1900's to the 1970's.

I truly hope that you will come to love Swedish rugs as much as I do. They represent folk art at it's truest form.
